Let's Talk Trash ... and Feng Shui

I am honored to present this guest blog post from my colleague, Mia A Staysko, of White Lotus Interiors, Calgary, AB, Canada. This informative article on trash appeared in the May 29, 2011 issue of her e-newsletter: White Lotus Letter.

A client asked Mia: How do we mitigate the effects of where our garbage/recycling bins/bathroom are located? Would it be that if the kitchen garbage is in your Wealth area, you might just be throwing money away?

Mia replied:
There are certain necessary functions which must occur in any home. Waste, both biological and man made are a necessary by-product of both our bodies and our lifestyles. We want both types to be flowing properly in order to have a clean home and body. However, when we begin to look at things from a symbolic and self-reflective standpoint, it is natural to wonder how best to deal with areas which we know to be useful but which do not necessarily have positive connotations. So lets talk about garbage.

Crystal Clear Energy at Work

Photo by Lisa Graham, Seadance Photography
Crystals add new energy vibrations to a space and redirect energy in a more beneficial direction. In doing so, they protect you from chaotic and negative ch’i.
Because of their prismatic shape, cut and quality, leaded crystal spheres are a powerful tool for expanding possibilities, removing blocks and brightening any situation. When used as a cure, a crystal can disperse destructive, rushing or stagnant ch’i. When used as an enhancement, a crystal will expand and uplift beneficial ch’i.
Although other leaded crystal ornaments may be used as Feng Shui enhancements, multi-faceted leaded crystal spheres are considered to be the most effective and auspicious.
To visualize a crystal refracts energy, think of a rotating disco ball and how the energy in a room changes when a strobe light is directed at it.
Still having difficulty imagining how a crystal can absorb and emit energy?
Think of the power of a magnet. A magnet attracts and holds small bits of metal when it is positioned above them. Leaded crystals attract and hold energy in a similar fashion. And, just as the metal filings can be released when you give the magnet a firm shake, a crystal can be cleared of energy residue. It is that simple!

Three Plants that 'Grow' Fresh Air

The practice of Feng Shui is focused on making our environments healthy and nourishing. As a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner, one of the first things I recommend to my clients is to remove all dried flowers from their living (or working) space. It is better to have the energy of  healthy, living plants to foster more positive ch'i. Turns out, however, that some plants have extra-special air cleaning properties! As a matter of fact, the Areca Palm, Money Plants and Mother-in-Law's Tongue can help you breathe easier!

Watch this video of Kamal Meattle as he explains how these three common house plants that can improve air quality in our homes and offices.
