Caring for Your Feng Shui Crystal Balls

An excerpt from The Complete Guide to Feng Shui Crystals.

You have just purchased a couple of multi-faceted crystal balls and you are eager to hang them in your home. What next? It is time for a little housekeeping! Your crystals may need to be cleaned and/or cleared before you hang them, to ensure they are free of dust, fingerprints and energy residue.

A crystal may have predecessor energy attached to it. Just as you would wash fruit before you eat it, your new crystal may need to be attended to before it can begin to work for you.

In addition to cleaning and clearing your crystals when you first obtain them, it is a good idea to clear your crystals after periods of severe stress, loss, or other emotional turmoil. They should also be cleared if you move to a new home/office or when you move them from one location to another.

The difference between 'cleaning' and 'clearing':

  • You 'clean' (or wash) crystals to remove debris you can see.
  • You clear crystals to remove energy residue that you can’t see.
Frequency of cleaning really depends on how dusty your environment is and your personal preference. Obviously, if they look dusty and dirty, they need to be cleaned. Ideally, however, they should be cleaned and cleared three or four times a year. Consider doing this with the changing seasons. It's fall, so this is a good time to give your crystals some T.L.C.

If you are cleaning crystals that you have had hanging for a long time, you may find that the red strings need freshening up, too. If necessary, remove old and dusty strings and discard them before cleaning and clearing. When the cleaning and clearing processes are complete, replace with new strings that are nine inches or multiples of nine inches in length. The right kind (and size) of string is hard to find so please feel free to contact me if you need some.
